In the Heat of the Night, a 1967 Academy Award winning drama (Best Picture) starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger (Best Actor), tells the story of a black Philadelphia police detective who is mistakenly suspected of a local murder while passing through a racially hostile Mississippi town, and after being cleared, is reluctantly asked by the police chief to investigate the case.
Poitier’s famous quote from the film, “They call me Mister Tibbs!” was listed as number 16 on the American Film Institute’s 100 Years…100 Movie Quotes. The film also appears on the Institute’s list of the 100 greatest movies in American cinema.
Enjoy free popcorn, a pre-movie organ show played by Eric Fahner on our historic Wurlitzer Organ, and a 35MM screening of In the Heat of the Night.
