It was his tenure with George that led him to work with a variety of esteemed artists\, from James Ingram and Anita Baker to Dave Koz and Wayman Tisdale. \nBecause his music is so popular throughout the world\, Shanachie Entertainment recording artist Simpson has been on a seemingly endless world tour\, which in 2019 included Japan\, Australia\, Korea\, Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Spain\, the United Kingdom\, Portugal\, and South Africa. \nJackiem Joyner\nContemporary saxophonist\, author\, and music producer Jackiem Joyner has set the bar high in his nearly two-decade-long career as a performer. With a number one jazz album\, numerous Billboard chart-topping hits\, and a series of critically acclaimed books to his name\, Joyner has proven himself a rare artist capable of transcending his instrument and captivating mainstream audiences. \nNow\, as he enters the 18th year of his career amid unprecedented change in the entertainment industry\, Joyner remains as dedicated to his art as ever. \n“No matter how difficult things become\, I’ll never stop doing what I love: playing the sax\, writing music and stories\, and performing live.” \nBorn in Norfolk\, VA\, Joyner demonstrated restless creativity from an early age\, a trait that would later define his career. Despite his humble upbringing\, he managed to acquire a saxophone as a child\, which quickly became his constant companion. After years of practice\, he made his debut with 2007’s ‘Babysoul.’ A masterclass in seductive smooth jazz\, the album marked the arrival of a brilliant instrumentalist\, paving the way for a prolific recording career that included Grammy runner-ups\, hit singles\, and abundant critical acclaim\, extending through 2019’s ‘Touch’ and 2020’s EP\, “Journey of Passion.” \nAs a performer\, Joyner has toured over 30 countries and shared the stage with legends such as the late George Duke\, Marcus Miller\, Keiko Matsui\, Donnie McClurkin\, Angela Bofill\, Najee\, Kirk Whalum\, Peter White\, and many others. \n \nComing with a group of 10 or more? SUMMARY:MARION MEADOWS - WBGO PRESENTS ALL THAT JAZZ
DESCRIPTION:Marion Meadows\nWBGO Presents All That Jazz\nat Hamilton Stage\nSaturday\, February 8\n5 PM & 8 PM\nTickets: $59.50 (Plus Fees)\nWBGO presents All That Jazz\, a unique series showcasing some of the genre’s most talented and respected performers! This month features smooth jazz musician and visual artist Marion Meadows. This series is a partnership between UCPAC and Smooth Jazz NJ. \nEnjoy an evening of smooth jazz\, beginning in the WBGO Piano Lounge. Come early to enjoy cocktails and live piano music from the phenomenal Leonieke Scheuble on the Fazioli piano before the performance – doors open one hour before showtime. Marion’s art will be displayed and available for purchase at this event! \n \nComing with a group of 10 or more? Request a Group Sale Discount \nAbout Marion Meadows\nMarion was born in West Virginia and grew up in Stamford\, Connecticut. He began playing the clarinet and studying classical music at the age of nine. He started playing tenor sax in high school\, and then migrated to soprano sax. His passion for various types of music led him down an eclectic musical path. He was intrigued by the styles of jazz musicians\, like Stanley Turrentine\, Sidney Bichet\, Johnny Hodges\, John Coltrane\, Sonny Stitt\, Rahsaan Roland Kirk\, Dexter Gordon\, Cannonball Adderley\, Coleman Hawkins\, Sonny Fortune\, Joe Henderson\, Grover Washington\, and many others. \nAfter studying jazz at Rippowam High School in Stamford\, CT with Anthony Truglia\, Meadows attended Berklee College of Music. There he majored in arranging and composition.\nHe later went to the SUNY Purchase School for the Arts. During his college years he played in a number of bands including disco\, R&B and various jazz ensembles. \n“I got a lot of sideman jobs in college\, and I have always said I got my real graduate degree playing clubs\,” says Meadows\, who perfected his craft studying with Sonny Fortune\, Joe Henderson\, Dave Liebman and Eddie Daniels. “Not long after I finished school\, (drummer) Norman Connors recorded one of my songs\, Invitation\, and then asked me to join his band. I later produced his Passion album with my colleague Jacques Burvick (Aquarium Dream). Things just fell into place.” \nMeadows first hit the airwaves in 1991 with “For Lovers Only”\, but his career really began one day in the late ‘80s at New York’s Grand Central Station. He had been a sideman with Connors for three years\, with only vague notions of eventually going solo. One day\, while waiting for a train\, he pulled out his horn and began playing under the huge dome. His sweet sound caught the attention of fellow traveler\, producer and TV composer Jay Chattaway\, who happened to be passing by on his way to the train. Chattaway was so impressed with Meadows’ sound that he hooked Meadows up with legendary keyboardist Bob James. Meadows and James collaborated on a recording that unfortunately went unreleased. The experience put him on the road to his eventual success. \nMeadows hooked up with numerous artists and musicians and became a well-known sideman in his own right\, recording or performing over the years with Brook Benton\, Eartha Kitt\, Phyllis Hyman\, Jean Carne\, The Temptations\, Michael Bolton\, Angela Bofill\, Will Downing\, Bob Baldwin\, Chuck Loeb\, John Lee\, among many others. In the late ‘80s\, Meadows stretched his boundaries by becoming a member of a New York avant-garde band called the Aboriginal Music Society. In 1990 Meadows submitted a solo project to Steve Backer at Novus/RCA and was signed to a recording contract\, thus marking the beginning of his solo career. \nMeadows’ first RCA release For Lovers Only was a huge success and was followed by his groundbreaking album Keep it Right There. He became a staple of the\ncontemporary jazz format with his subsequent recordings\, which include Body Rhythm (1994)\, Forbidden Fruit (1996)\, Passion (1997)\, Another Side Of Midnight (1999)\, Next To You (2000)\, In Deep (2002)\, Players Club (2004)\, Dressed To Chill (2006)\, Secrets (2009) Whisper (2013) and most recently Soul Traveler\, the first installment of his Soul Trilogy which now showcases his current release\, Soul City on the New York-based Shanachie Label. \n \nMore About Marion Meadows\nMeadows is a semi-pro cyclist\, graphic artist and designer. He received a doctorate from Wilberforce University in 2016. His artwork and photography can be viewed at: \nwww.marionmeadowsatmospheres.com \nwww.marionmeadowsphotography.com \n \n \n  Check out the City of Rahway’s Dinner & Show Deals! \nSee all of UCPAC’s Upcoming Events

SUMMARY:THE RED HOT CHILLI PIPERS
DESCRIPTION:The Red Hot Chilli Pipers\nFriday\, March 14\n8 PM\nBagpipers who Rock!\nTickets: $29-$49 (Plus Fees)\n \nUCPAC is thrilled to welcome back The Red Hot Chilli Pipers to our Main Stage this St. Patrick’s weekend! Bagpipes with attitude. Drums with a Scottish accent. A blazing rock band and show so hot\, it carries its own health warning! \nIt’s Bagpipes. It’s Rock. It’s Bagrock. AC/DC meets the poet Robert Burns. Where rock anthems sit comfortably alongside the great tunes from the glens and the mountains of Scotland. \nIt’s the Red Hot Chilli PIPERS – (NOT the Peppers!) — a 9-piece ensemble consisting of pipers\, guitarists\, keyboards\, and drummers — who have been rocking the world from New York to Beijing to Melbourne and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless. The band has four music degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and all the pipers and drummers have played at the top level in bagpiping. \nSince they walked away with the top prize on the primetime TV talent show\, “When Will I Be Famous” in the U.K. in 2007\, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven’t stopped for a breath\, other than to inflate their bagpipes! Formed in 2002\, The Chillis have fast become a global phenomenon\, taking their signature ‘Bagrock’ sound to the masses with their unique fusion of rocked up Bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres. Their trademarked sound is a unique fusion of traditional pipe tunes – like “The Flowers of Scotland”\, “The Hills of Argyll”\, and “Amazing Grace” (done Chilli-style\, of course!) — and contemporary anthems like Queen’s “We Will Rock You”\, “Clocks” by Coldplay\, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol\, “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams\, and a fantastic rock medley of “Deep Purple”\, “Smoke on the Water”\, and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”. \nThe Chillis have never been more in demand for their infectious style of feel-good music which appeals right across the age range to people all over the world. Here’s what some of them had to say: \n\n“These are my boys!” exclaimed Sir Paul McCartney after rocking out to a Chilli performance.\n“Awesome!” said film star Ewen McGregor after he guested on drums with the Chillis\n“Gotta get me some of that Red Hot Chilli Pipers! I WANT some!” tweeted actor Samuel Jackson after seeing the band perform on NBC in the summer of 2012\n\nThere has never been anything quite like The Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Feel the Chilli heat: It’s time to come closer to the fire! \n \nComing with a group of 10 or more? SUMMARY:URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL
DESCRIPTION:URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL\nPresented by The Academy for Performing Arts at UCVTS \nFriday\, March 21 & Saturday\, March 22 7 PM\nSunday\, March 23 2 PM\nAt UCPAC’s Main Stage\nOn Sale Now!\nTickets: $15 – $20 (Plus Fees)\n \nThe Academy for Performing Arts at UCVTS presents Urinetown: The Musical!\nJoin us for a satirical comedy set in a dystopian future where a water shortage forces citizens to pay to use public toilets controlled by the corrupt Urine Good Company. When idealistic Bobby Strong leads a rebellion against the oppressive system\, he falls for Hope Cladwell\, the daughter of the company’s ruthless CEO. As the revolution unfolds\, the musical humorously critiques capitalism\, corporate greed\, and even theatre conventions\, blending dark comedy with unexpected twists. \nMeet the Cast \nThe Academy for Performing Arts (APA) in Scotch Plains\, NJ\, is a prestigious high school within the Union County Vocational-Technical Schools (UCVTS) that provides a dynamic and immersive education in theatre\, dance\, and technical arts. Combining a strong academic foundation with professional-level artistic training\, APA nurtures students’ creativity\, discipline\, and passion for performance. Through a curriculum that includes acting\, voice\, movement\, stagecraft\, and production\, students develop the skills needed for success in college and the performing arts industry. \nMore About the Musical\nUrinetown: The Musical premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival in 1999 before making its Off-Broadway debut in 2001 and transferring to Broadway later that year. With music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and a book by Greg Kotis\, the show cleverly critiques capitalism\, corporate greed\, bureaucracy\, and even musical theatre conventions. \nSet in a dystopian future where a water shortage forces citizens to pay to use public toilets controlled by the corrupt Urine Good Company\, Urinetown follows a rebellion led by the idealistic Bobby Strong against the oppressive system. The show’s self-aware humor\, absurdist elements\, and sharp social commentary made it a critical and commercial success. \nDuring its Broadway run\, Urinetown won three Tony Awards in 2002\, including Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. It has since become a popular production for regional and school theatres\, praised for its witty satire\, engaging music\, and thought-provoking themes. \n \n \nSee all of UCPAC’s Upcoming Events

Request a Group Sale Discount \nAbout Alex Bugnon\nJazz pianist Alex Bugnon has been a prolific\, energetic force on the contemporary music scenefor more than two decades. A renowned musician/composer/bandleader\, Bugnon hales from the picturesque town of Montreux\, Switzerland – site of the world famous Jazz Festival.  No doubt\, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home\, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career\, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock.  The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision. \nBugnon left Montreux to continue his training at a music conservatory in Paris before landing in Boston to further hone his skills at the famed Berklee School of Music. It was here in the U.S. that his exposure to a diversity of musical styles – from R&B to gospel and funk\, began to shape and influence his personal sound. He toured the south playing with Gospel Leviticus and after graduation from Berklee\, had the opportunity to play in bands backing R&B greats Patti Austin\, James Ingram\, Melba Moore\, Freddie Jackson\, and Keith Sweat. In between gigs he drove cabs and taught French at the Berlitz School as a means to support his musical career. But it would be his encounter with saxophonist Najee that would ultimately turn the tide for him.  Signed to Orpheus Records\, Najee would make the introduction that would result in Alex’s first recording\ncontract. \nHis first album\, Love Season (1989)\, with the fledgling record label\, catapulted the virtual unknown to prominence and set him on his musical course.  The album rocketed to number 2 on the R&B charts and was nominated for best jazz album at the Soul Train Awards. In 1991\, Alex released his second album for Orpheus\, Head Over Heels\, and like the first\, it became a chart topper cementing his position as a radio and fan favorite on the R&B and smooth jazz circuit\, earning him Black Radio Exclusive’s Best New Artist Award. \nIt was no coincidence that Alex was embraced by an R&B/soul audience; after all\, his love of music was rooted in an appreciation and understanding of classic jazz and soul-based artists\, from Memphis Slim and Bill Evans\, to Herbie Hancock\, Thelonius Monk\, Art Blakey and Earth\, Wind and Fire. This was his inspiration\, and it easily translated into his own compositions and in his delivery of the standards. \nIn 1991\, he parted ways with Orpheus Records and signed with Epic to record his award-winning third album\, 107 Degrees in the Shade (1991) for which he received a Soul Train Award. He would release one more album under the Epic label\, the bestselling\, This Time Around (1993)\, before signing with RCA for Tales from the Bright Side (1995)\, before taking a five-year hiatus from recording. \nAs the new century began\, Alex was also beginning anew. Signed to the Narada/EMI label he resurfaced\, with the first of four albums for the label; As Promised (2000) followed by Soul Purpose (2001)\, Southern Living (2003) and Free (2005). Then in 2007\, a chance meeting with award-winning producer and label founder\, Michael Cuscuna\, resulted in a comprehensive compilation album\, The Ultimate Alex Bugnon\, featuring cuts from each of his past recordings\, and giving Alex a taste of what he had always been in search of – control. The Ultimate Alex Bugnon was released on Michael Cuscuna’s Mosaic label and provided Alex the time needed to give thought to his creative process and allowed him to return to what was important to him as an artist\, as a composer and as a musician. \nBugnon continued touring\, but used the in-between time to reflect and re-evaluate every aspect of his personal and career journey.  The result of this introspective period was his 2010 release\, Going Home\, recorded under his own label\, Xela Records. The album incorporated a traditional sextet format\, with trumpet\, saxophone and trombone added to his trio\, and featured old friends\, drummer Poogie Bell and bassist Victor Bailey. \nOver these past few decades\, Alex Bugnon has built a strong and loyal fan base across the country and around the world.  His tour schedule has never eased\, even besting the great Dizzy Gillespie’s record of appearances at Washington\, D.C.’s Blues Alley.  He makes it a point of never missing a day of piano practice or of writing. If he is not composing\, he is listening to his favorite artists and biggest influences: Herbie Hancock\, McCoy Tyner\, Red Garland\, Kenny Kirkland\, Mulgrew Miller and Keith Jarrett. \nAs the year comes to a close\, Alex has released his 12th album – HARLEM\, the second on Xela. HARLEM is a mix of original compositions and his personal take on beloved and well-known songs including the classic A Night in Tunisia\, Curtis Mayfield’s Pusherman\, Stevie Wonder’s Summer Soft and Burt Bacharach’s A House is Not a Home. Alex makes his home in the historic village of Harlem\, New York\, and maintains his connection to his beloved Montreux. \n \nComing with a group of 10 or more? SUMMARY:THE FAB FOUR - THE ULTIMATE TRIBUTE
DESCRIPTION:The Fab Four – The Ultimate Tribute\nSaturday\, April 26\n8 PM\nDoors 7 PM\nTickets: $39-$69 (Plus Fees)\n\nComing with a group of 10 or more? Request a Group Sale Discount \nThe Fab Four tribute is undoubtedly the Ultimate Beatles tribute! With uncanny\, note-for-note live renditions of the Beatles’ classics\, The Fab Four – The Ultimate Tribute will make you think you are back in time rockin’ with John\, Paul\, George\, and Ringo! This loving tribute to the Beatles has amazed audiences around the world\, with performances in Japan\, Malaysia\, France\, Hong Kong\, the United Kingdom\, Germany\, Mexico and Brazil. With The Fab Four – The Ultimate Tribute on stage\, you’ll hear record-perfect live performances of such classics as “Can’t Buy Me Love\,” “Yesterday\,” “A Day In The Life\,” “Penny Lane\,” “Here Comes The Sun\,” “Hey Jude\,” and many more! \nAbout The Band\nRon McNeil\, who plays John Lennon\, has performed all around the world including Japan\, Hong Kong\, Argentina\, and in front of an audience of 30\,000 in Brazil. In Malaysia\, he was invited to play for the Prime Minister in a special performance. He was also chosen to play numerous shows to promote The Beatles Anthology video release by Turner Home Entertainment. His incredible look and sound-alike abilities have created the ultimate loving tribute to the late John Lennon. Each night\, his uncanny rendition of “Imagine” captures the spirit of the man we all knew and loved. \nGavin Pring plays George Harrison and was born and raised in the birthplace of The Beatles in Liverpool\, England. Bearing a remarkable resemblance to the “quiet Beatle”\, it was inevitable that Gavin would be in the cast of The Fab Four. His natural wit and charm have won him acclaim around the world\, and he is now one of the most sought after artists in his field. He has even shared the stage with Sir Paul McCartney himself! It’s his attention to detail that makes Gavin the best tribute to the spiritual Beatle. \nErik Fidel\, a self-taught musician from Sacramento\, California\, has been captivated by the Beatles since the age of six. Although he wasn’t around on that fateful February night in 1964\, he was introduced to the four lads in the same fashion by his parents on an old VHS. He remembers feeling a kindred spirit to Ringo from the start. Since then\, he has traveled around the world as a multi-instrumentalist\, playing drums\, bass\, keys and guitar in a number of touring groups. Erik brings Ringo’s unmistakable drumming style and fun loving stage presence to the cast of The Fab Four – The Ultimate Tribute. \nArdy Sarraf has been acclaimed by both Beatles fans and critics as the best musician to ever portray the youthful Paul McCartney. Ardy has toured extensively as Paul in such places as Japan\, Korea\, Guam\, and Puerto Rico\, to name a few\, and has appeared on stage with such artists as Bruce Springsteen\, Micky Dolenz\, and John Fogerty. His left-handed bass playing and “record accurate” vocals have won him first place in numerous Beatlefest sound-alike contests. Unlike other imitators\, he plays piano on such songs as “Hey Jude” and “Let It Be\,” just like McCartney did on the original recordings. His strong resemblance to the “cute Beatle” will definitely make you take a second look. \n \n \n \n  Check out the City of Rahway’s Dinner & Show Deals! \nSee all of UCPAC’s Upcoming Events
