SUMMARY:UNION COUNTY SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL 2025 - FREESTYLE
DESCRIPTION:The Union County Board of County Commissioners presents\nUnion County Summer Arts Festival 2025 – Freestyle\nfeaturing TKA\, Judy Torres\, and Soave\nSaturday\, July 19\nDoors: 3 PM\nShow: 4 PM\nFree!\nPlease note: This event was originally scheduled to take place in Warinanco Park\, but will now take place at UCPAC’s Main Stage due to potential inclement weather.\nThe Union County Board of County Commissioners invites residents to a night of classic Freestyle music featuring TKA\, Judy Torres\, and Soave! \n“Freestyle music has deep roots in Hispanic and Latino communities across New York and New Jersey\, and it’s a sound that brings people together\,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon. “These artists gave a voice to a generation and created a soundtrack for so many lives. We’re excited to bring that energy back to UCPAC’s Main Stage and invite families of all ages to come dance\, sing\, and celebrate.” \nGet ready for a night of nonstop throwbacks as these Freestyle hitmakers take the stage. TKA will headline the event with crowd favorites like “Maria\,” “Come Get My Love\,” and “Scars of Love.” Joining them is the “Queen of Freestyle\,” Judy Torres\, whose songs like “No Reason to Cry” and “Come Into My Arms” continue to light up the dance floor. Rounding out the lineup is Soave\, whose major hit “Crying Over You” became part of the soundtrack of the Freestyle music genre. Together\, they’ll bring a night full of legendary anthems and performances you won’t want to miss! \nThe Union County Summer Arts Festival is provided with support from the Union County Education Association. \nFor more information about the Summer Arts Festival\, please visit ucnj.org/summer25 or call the Union County Department of Parks and Recreation at 908-527-4900.

Valens is best known for his rock n’ roll adaption of the classic Mexican folk song “La Bomba.” \nThe film’s cast includes Esai Morales\, Rosanna DeSoto\, Elizabeth Peña\, Danielle von Zerneck\, and Joe Pantoliano. Musicians of note seen in “La Bamba” include Brian Setzer as Eddie Cochran\, Marshall Crenshaw as Buddy Holly\, and Los Lobos\, who performed all of Valens’ songs in the movie at Valens’ family’s request. Other cameos in the film include Connie Valenzuela\, Richie Valens’ mother. \nAt just 17 years old\, Valens sadly passed away in a 1959 plane crash that also took the lives of Buddy Holly\, the Big Bopper\, and the pilot\, Roger Peterson. The incident was the inspiration for singer/songwriter Don McClean’s 70s classic “American Pie” and became known as “the day the music died\,” but the songs Valens left behind will live forever. \nJoin us on UCPAC’s Main Stage after “La Bamba” for a dance party celebrating Valens’ music and other Latin rock and pop hits by the artists he inspired! \nThis screening of “La Bamba” (Rated PG-13) is part of the I. Learn more about Sensory Friendly Theatre events.\n“The miracle is not some magic that you’ve got – the miracle is you.” Bring the whole family to experience the magic of Disney’s “Encanto!” \nDisney’s “Encanto” follows a multigenerational Colombian family\, the Madrigals\, led by a matriarch whose children and grandchildren—except for Mirabel Madrigal—receive magical gifts from a miracle\, which they use to help the people in their rural community\, called the Encanto. When Mirabel learns that the family is losing their magic\, she sets out to find out why and save her family and house. Starring the voices of Stephanie Beatriz\, María Cecilia Botero\, John Leguizamo\, Mauro Castillo [es]\, Jessica Darrow\, Angie Cepeda\, Carolina Gaitán\, Diane Guerrero\, and Wilmer Valderrama\, with Rhenzy Feliz\, Ravi Cabot-Conyers\, Adassa\, and Maluma in additional roles. \n“‘Encanto’ has been visualized with a vivacious naturalistic glow (swirling flower petals\, eye-candy pastels) that\, at moments\, is nearly psychedelic.” –Variety \nBillboard’s Leila Cobo stated “Colombia is “finally seen and not just heard” via Encanto. Cobo praised the film for not homogenizing all of the Latin American countries in the manner U.S. media has generally been\, instead accurately depicting the culture unique to Colombia: “from accents to outfits to minute details like the hand-painted tableware\, the embroidered dresses\, the food\, the many colors of our skin\, even the animals – including the ubiquitous toucan and the yellow butterflies that are synonymous with García Márquez.” \nWatch the Trailer\n \nWhat to expect at a Sensory Friendly Theatre Movie Experience: \n\nMovie will run its full length without intermission.\nSeating is general admission; a limited number of tickets will be sold to maintain a comfortably-sized audience.\nLights will remain on at 25% brightness inside the theater auditorium during the entire performance.\nSound volume will be lowered and remain constant to prevent abrupt\, jarring sounds.\n\n \n \n \n \n Check out the City of Rahway’s Dinner & Show Deals! \nSee all of UCPAC’s Upcoming Events
