CABARET, CLUELESS, AND PINK FLAMINGOS: JOIN UCPAC FOR UPCOMING CLASSIC FILMS IN 35MM
RAHWAY, NJ — Are you a lover of classic films and a fun evening out? If that’s a yes, then Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) has got you covered with their monthly 35mm film screenings as part of their I. Joseph Hyatt Classic Film Series! The next upcoming films are “Cabaret,” “Clueless,” and “Pink Flamingos,” which will screen on March 26, April 16, and May 21, respectively.
“Cabaret” in 35mm will be shown this Thursday on March 26 on UCPAC’s Main Stage. If you may be unfamiliar with the title, “Cabaret” is a 1972 classic that is considered the “best movie musical of all time,” according to Forbes. Set in 1930s Germany, the film follows the story of an American singer, Bowles, who performs at a famous Berlin club under a Nazi regime. The film has even acquired eight Academy Awards, with Liza Minnelli winning Best Actress and Joel Grey for Best Supporting Actor.

If you are interested in attending the “Cabaret” screening, there will be a few fun activities prior to the film, including an organ concert on the Biggest Little Wurlitzer, a Kit Kat Klub photo op, and Broadway karaoke hosted by drag queen Very Gerry! You are encouraged to dress up as your favorite showgirl or simply come as you are.
The following screening, “Clueless,” will be on Friday, April 16. Alicia Silverstone, who plays Cher Horowitz, provides a fun and witty coming-of-age film that is still loved today. If you show up dressed in your best 90s costume, you get a chance to compete and win a prize before the movie begins! There will also be a photo op, vendors, and a chance to grab some sweet treats and cocktails in the Café.

Lastly, “Pink Flamingos” is another 1972 classic and will be shown on UCPAC’s big screen on Thursday, May 21. The film, starring Divine, is a subversive satire of fame and morality that remains a landmark in movie history and is preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Sign up for our Lip Sync battle before the movie hosted by drag queens Very Gerry and Gretchen Sanity and then join us on stage after the movie to compete for prizes! Plus, enjoy a cocktail and dress as Divine as you dare or your finest drag attire!

This is a lineup that you don’t want to miss, so secure your tickets today! For each film, doors open at 6 p.m. and screenings begin at 7 p.m.. Advance tickets are $17 for each event, and $22 for day-of-show tickets. Tickets are currently available for “Cabaret,” “Clueless,” and “Pink Flamingos.”
These events are supported in-part by funding through the NJEDA’s A.R.T. – Phase II Grant Program and New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism.
