A Note From Craig:

Picture this. It’s my third day on staff as the new Executive Director of the Union County Performing Arts Center. I’m heady with excitement about getting to know my staff, board, and larger community, and with preparation for our upcoming “re-opening night” show (with the 90s Texas-based rock band, Bowling for Soup).

I head home after a good but hard day’s work, knowing that the “remnants” of Hurricane Ida are about to hit New Jersey but never imagining the terrible damage that the storm was going to wreak not only on so many homes and businesses in Rahway and Union County, but also on our beautiful Hamilton Stage building, which was inundated by flooding and suffered extensive damage. The best current estimate is that repair and restoration of the building will take at least six months, and perhaps a full year.

And now, a few weeks later, the fiscal realities of the damage to the UCPAC budget are clear and stark: Of our annual revenue of just over $1,600,000, we generally gross close to $225,000 from rentals and other events at the Hamilton Stage building. When you deduct our costs, including allocated overhead, with Hamilton Stage closed for six months or more it looks like we’re going to have to raise at least $30,000 (and possibly more) in order to balance our 2021-22 budget.  

So I’m reaching out to you, our most committed supporters, to ask for your financial help. Would you please consider making a donation of any amount to help us get to the other side of this double whammy (I’m guessing I don’t need to remind you that the damage to Hamilton Stage came after nearly 18 months during which both venues were off-line due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

For those willing to make a donation of $75 or more, you’ll become an official member of the Union County Performing Arts Center, with advance notice of shows, concessions discounts, and more (we’re still working out the details of our new membership levels). If you’d consider making a $250 contribution (or more), I’ll personally call you to say thanks for your gift and hear your thoughts on where UCPAC should go in the months and years ahead.
