Here is an update on the status of our remediation and restoration of our beloved Hamilton Stage. As you can see in the photos above, progress is being made! The clean-up and mold remediation is complete, and reconstruction is underway. We still don’t have a firm estimate on when the venue will re-open, but it is looking like it will be somewhere in the early- to mid-Fall. Please rest assured that we’ll let you know as soon as we have a clear sense of when the venue will be operational again.
As we wrote to you last Fall, while the City of Rahway is taking responsibility for the restoration of the theater—with significant assistance from their insurance company—the loss of Hamilton Stage means that the UCPAC has lost an entire year of revenue from that wonderful venue. We estimated in the Fall that the shortfall was going to be around $30,000, and that still seems like the right number as we close in on the end of our fiscal year (June 30).
The good news is that we’ve raised $20,000 thus far—including a $5,000 donation from Covanta and a $10,000 donation from RSI Bank—and so have just $10,000 more to go. And the even better news is that we’ve just confirmed a $5,000 challenge grant from RWJ Barnabas Health, so every dollar that is contributed between now and June 30th (up to $5,000) will be matched by RWJBH!
Your contribution of literally any amount—from $10 to $1000 (or more?)—can help us ensure that we have the staffing and other resources in place to re-open the Hamilton Stage in the strongest position possible. Any contribution of $75 or above will make you a member of the UCPAC, with associated benefits (see our benefit levels by visiting http://www.ucpac.org/membership).
When you look at the photos of the auditorium as it looks today, the absence of seats may be what you notice first. They will be replaced soon. But without you to fill them, the theatre will always be just a shell of its pre-Ida self. We can’t wait to open our doors to you again and offer you the theatre, comedy, music, and dance you’ve enjoyed at the Hamilton Stage since 2012. We’re counting on you to come fill those brand-new seats and make brand-new memories with us soon.
Did you know that ticket sales only cover half the cost of our productions? In order to continue our mission as a regional destination for art and culture, UCPAC seeks collaborative partnerships with individuals like you.
